“The support and training from There Be Giants have proven immensely valuable“.
Springer Nature had a desire to integrate OKRs into their operations, aiming to instil a fresh approach that would enhance agility, alignment, and transparency.
Springer Nature needed support to embed OKRs at team level in order to foster cross-functional transparency and highlight dependencies. Springer Nature was lacking energy and momentum and needed an initiative that enabled sustained energy and momentum for the long term.
In our collaboration with Springer Nature, we engaged with a variety of business units, placing an emphasis on establishing an OKR Community of Excellence. Our efforts involved mapping out their overarching global group strategy and functional strategies. Using our heat mapping tool proved to be particularly impactful, providing Springer Nature with valuable insights into dependencies across different areas of the organisation.
Addressing the crucial aspect of psychological safety was another focal point. We worked with the ExCo and various departmental leadership teams to evaluate and understand the levels of psychological safety within their team, conducting a thorough diagnosis to identify the underlying reasons for their scores. Having successfully completed the initial pilot phase, we have progressed to phase 2 in 2024.
Our current scope extends to working with an additional 8 business units, with plans to extend the programme to the entire organisation in 2025.
At the ExCo level and within key strategic areas, Springer Nature has successfully adopted a robust OKR methodology and have achieved things that wouldn’t have been on their radar were it not for OKRs, showcasing the focused and transformative impact of OKRs.
This success has fuelled their motivation to extend the application of OKRs into additional areas, aligning with our collaborative efforts in 2024.
