We think OKRs are bloody awesome, so when we hear that our clients are feeling the love for OKRs too we know it’s going to be a good day!

The Summer months have been fantastic and the There Be Giants team have been busy working with new businesses across the globe, guiding them through their OKR journey. So, we thought we’d let you into what we’ve been up to, who we’ve been working with and potentially how our current projects could show you the OKR way for your business.

Finding focus with Tails

Deciding what to focus on within a business can be a real challenge, especially when you are being pulled in so many different directions. This was part of the problem for Tails – a dog food supplier, who tailor their recipes to meet dogs’ nutritional needs. They found focus to be a struggle and needed support with their prime focus, allocation of resources and measuring the effectiveness of the process.

Using three pilot priorities as a test, Tails realised that an OKR health-check would be hugely beneficial and provide them with bespoke advice tailored to Tails and their industry.

We worked with Tails to help clear the pathway to focus on growth through implementing OKRs as a methodology within their company. Steve Spall, COO at Tails said, “We have now rolled out the use of OKRs across all of our key business priorities, which is helping us drive focused change more effectively.”

Empowering the Encompass team

In 2018 the UK arm of Encompass – creator of customer automation software – had a change of leadership team. This provided an opportunity to make changes and deliver a framework that could help to empower people within the organisation to take ownership of their own lines of work.

The OKR framework allows everyone within the Encompass team to see how the tasks they are working on are helping towards the company’s overall strategic aims – enabling empowerment and a higher level of job satisfaction for Encompass team members.

Kate McAleavey, Product Owner at Encompass said, “The introduction of OKRs was a great way to get some perspective on where we want the business to develop, as well as grow. The training with our OKR champions and There Be Giants really helped us understand the purpose of OKRs and best practices, which assisted when creating our own.”

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits that Encompass have reported is that as a result of implementing OKRs, the amount of time that is now set aside for having conversations across the business about priorities has increased. OKR has become the “label” for the conversation to take place, leading to deeper discussions about priorities and alignment. Everyone is committed to making it happen.
